I am perfectly
imperfect. Or maybe imperfectly perfect. Basically, I know that I make a LOT of mistakes AND that I improve from them. I’m definitely a work in progress … I embrace the work and I LOVE progress. Do you relate? Do you love to improve? Are
you curious? Do you like change? Try this "life hack": Say Yes and Do Your Best. How many times have you heard that? It’s the kind of thing that even makes me roll my eyes a bit and also the kind of thing that makes my kids roll their eyes. It sounds so cliche! It’s also not really taken as helpful advice by some of my clients or colleagues. Why? Isn’t “show up and do your best” a great summary on how to be effective? Let’s break it down
quickly. Say Yes … this is about showing up. This is not necessarily easy, in fact, I believe this might be the more challenging part. How can you overcome the inertia of comfort to get yourself to do something else even if you know it’s going to be good for you? We are wired to take the path of least resistance and to
conserve energy, so doing anything else needs a compelling reason and an internal discussion. You can do it. I have faith in all of us. Find the way to show up. Do Your Best … this is about effort not being attached to an outcome! Give it your all once you’ve showed up and put
everything you can into it. Whatever it is …a workout class, lunch with a friend, a business presentation. Many times we don’t give things “their all” because we fear making mistakes, failure, or even fear what we are actually capable of … what happens if our 100% is not good enough? We hide. We protect ourselves? Is this bad? No such thing as bad. We are human. AND, if we DO choose to do our best, with consistency and compounding time we will build habits, strengthen relationships, smile more,
reach goals, and even empower ourselves to keep showing up for more. Every day comes with choices. Tomorrow will also. And so will the next day. Say Yes and Do Your Best, or not.
You can ... Say yes to exercise, or
not. Say yes to using social media, or not. Say yes to being kind, or not. Say yes to going to a farmers’ market, or not. Say yes to trying to a new hobby, or not. Say yes to playing in nature, or not. Say yes to practising the art of breathing, or not. Say yes to pursuing your purpose, or not. Say yes to expressing gratitude to someone you love, or not. Say yes to supporting a small, local business, or not. Say yes to opening your mind, or not. Say yes to
following your heart, or not. Say yes to joining us in TWIC, or not.
If we are fortunate enough to have choices in life, how about saying YES a little more? As Dan Harris says, "There's no point in being unhappy about things you can't change, and
no point being unhappy about things you can."
