Good news! The emotion associated with summer (just weeks ahead now), is
joy! Did you know that in traditional Chinese medicine, anger is the
energy of spring? Think of a seed becoming and then breaking its shell to rise up! This is where we have been ... where we are. In business or in life, anger might be telling you when your boundaries have been violated, your needs aren't being met, or an abusive pattern is being established. It also might be suggesting that it’s time to strengthen, to make change, and to add some reinforcements into your life. A most important reminder (for us all) is to listen to our anger ... it’s a teacher like everything else! When anger grows up, it can help you grow and become more of who you are … with conviction. Anger is so often a feared emotion. Many of us have been shamed, punished, or ignored when we experience anger and this can often condition us to suppress or avoid anger. We might even feel badly that we feel angry in the first place. In the “wellness world”, anger is often considered to be something to temper … or even
deny. Meditating daily is great. Learning to hone conscious leadership skills is great. Although these and so many other practices are supportive and can help us grow, they are not practices to use to bypass our true emotions. It's about us learning to be responsive instead of reactive. What big work this is! I have found that it’s not acceptable to express that I’m angry in many relationships - personal and professional ones. How about you? Repressed anger, frustration, and resentment can morph into depression and
disconnection ... even illness. A very dear friend of mine once made me promise to feel everything, to use my voice firmly and productively, and to not hold it, and to pass it on. And so here I am … angry and expressive! It’s the season. If you feel frustrated, allow yourself to express it. If you feel
anything, allow yourself to express it. A trusted relationship will always have space for all feelings. Anger doesn't have to mean danger. Anger doesn't have to be ugly. Anger is loaded with information. Anger is loaded with energy. Where do you feel your
anger? What is YOUR anger trying to tell you? Breathe. Listen. Attend. And then, from a place of awareness, watch paths open. In life, with our work, projects, and relationships. Anger is an invitation to speak up for ME without tearing YOU down. Here are a few (of the many) things that I’ve been angry about this season ... I'm sharing with you to express my anger and I'm including some hope, resources, and solutions so that we can do better, together. PFAS "Forever Chemicals" ... doesn't that just say it all?!
