This is the year to grow food instead of grass! When I started to grow my own food in 2002, I did so to grow local and organic food, to get my hands a little
dirty with my kids, and for the thrill of harvesting from my garden. I had NO idea that growing our own food would lead to “radical amazement” or “WOW” in so many ways … affecting the way I work, the way I parent, the way I live … and affecting others too … family, friends, clients, neighbours, and rippling beyond. I knew I was on to something really special when I started to benefit in ways that were completely unrelated to my original goal of growing food for and with my family. You might
already experience this too ... or maybe you will this growing season!
An edible garden returns the investment you put into it.
Not just with food but with
...
+ Radical wonder and amazement
+ Joy
+ Gratitude
+ Mindfulness
+ Microbiome boost
+ Peace and presence
+ Connection with creation
+ Appreciation of soil
+ Protecting our resources
+ A spiritual retreat from the noisy
world
+ Nourishing others
+ Understanding fairness (by honouring farmers and their labour-intensive work when buying food)
+ Making better choices for all and everything
+ Repairing our world
Knowledge is power, but it also creates responsibility. I’m so grateful to have found knowledge, meaning, and roots in my front yard … and how this choice to grow food has ultimately lead me to this moment. No matter where you are in this world geographically, I am here to support you in growing your own food should you choose to do so! Paying
forward a little of what so many regenerative, kind, soil-loving, and human-caring farmers (and, of course, Chris Wong) have taught me! No experience or land required … just desire!
By being involved with food from seed and soil to table, we can all find and feel a little of the radical wonder and amazement we need to help lead us to wherever we need (or want) to be.

Not All Home Gardens Are Created Equal
Unfortunately, even when we
grow our own food, there are things we need to look out for. Many of the seeds available for purchase are genetically
modified
or already treated with pesticides. Also, often bags of soil from our local store contain chemical fertilizers that leach into our food and water. Isn’t the point of growing our own food that we don’t end up with these ingredients on our plates? For helpful home garden resources, click here.
Questions To Ask Your Farmers
I love shopping at a Farmers’ Market. It's not just the Kind Food and Empathy Economics, it's the people, the conversations, the education, and the connection. The benefits are endless. But, as anywhere, buyer beware! Just because it’s at the farmers’ market doesn’t make the food automatically healthy. Here are a few great questions to ask at the farmers' markets, click here.
Practice The Kind Salad Ritual
Cooking doesn’t have to be a rushed or distracted experience. As you know, I am about Wellness Intelligence and cooking offers a wonderful opportunity for us to train our minds to be present and nourish our physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, intellectual, social, environmental,
and financial wellness … all eight dimensions of wellness. From ingredient prep to making the actual dish, the experience of shopping and cooking can be “unmeditative”, it’s simply about being connected to your food! For my Kind Salad Ritual, click here.
More Ways To Inspire Awe
That feeling—of being in the presence of something vast—is good for us. And,
counterintuitively, it can often be found in completely unremarkable circumstances. For more moments of awe, click here.
